Coconut stands as a key export commodity for Indonesia, exhibiting a positive growth trajectory in the international market. Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in 2023 underscores Indonesia’s significant presence in the global market, with China being the primary export destination (17.42%), followed by Malaysia (15.96%) and the Netherlands (11.5%).
Other nations contributing substantially to the demand for Indonesian coconuts include the United States (9.47%), Sri Lanka (6.41%), South Korea (4.01%), Singapore (3.86%), Thailand (1.75%), India (1.54%), and Vietnam (0.99%). This robust demand from various countries reflects the increasing global recognition of Indonesian coconut quality.
The Ministry of Agriculture affrims that coconuts are not only a domestic agricultural staple but also a strategic commodity strengthening Indonesia’s position in global agricultural trade. The competitiveness and superior quality of national coconuts are key factors driving international market confidence.
To further expand market reach, the Ministry of Agriculture is actively promoting enchanced producitivity and the quality in the national coconut sector. This initiative is expected to not only boost export potential but also add value and improve the welfare of coconut farmers across Indonesia.
